come on summer, get here already

All I want if for summer to arrive. I'm tired of the cold. I want to lie on the beach, wear my summer dresses, sleep with all the windows open and eat lots of ice-cream :)

eat pray love

There is such a lot of hype about this book and movie at the moment. I read about the book on one of the blogs I follow and thought "I should read it sometime". Then I saw the preview for the movie and thought "I should read the book before I watch the movie" (as I find the book is always better than the movie). And then I got my kindle and it was one of the recommended books so I thought "now's the time" and bought it.

I read it over the weekend and really enjoyed it. I'm at a stage in my life where I'm reevaluating my beliefs, goals and outlooks on how I should be living so I liked what I read in this book. I also like the philosophy she has on faith. But I don't believe in taking books too seriously so I just read it for the enjoyment.

Here are some of the passages I liked:

"God is... the love that moves the sun and the other stars."

"Just as there exists in writing a literal truth and a poetic truth, there also exists in a human being a literal anatomy and a poetic anatomy. One, you can see; one, you cannot. One is made of bones and teeth and flesh' the other is made of energy and memory and faith. But they are both equally true."

"The Hopi Indians thought that the world's religions each contained one spiritual thread, and that these threads are always seeking each other, wanting to join. When all these threads are finally woven together they will form a rope that will pull us out of this dark cycle of history and into the next realm."

On eating so much in Italy "... I'm on a "No Carbs Left Behind" tour.

betty's bay weekend

Over the long weekend Rudi and I went off to Betty's Bay for another completely relaxed, totally chilled weekend away. It didn't start off great though. Rudi and I had an accident on the way there on Thursday. Totally the other guys fault and luckily we're both fine, but spending 4 hours sorting out police reports, towing the car and waiting for my dad to come fetch us while we could have been sitting drinking wine and staring out at the sea wasn't fun. But once we got home Thursday night we decided that we shouldn't let this spoil our weekend so off we went on Friday.

Other than the unfortunate beginning the rest of the weekend was heavenly. Lots of sleeping, eating, reading (I finished Eat Pray Love :) and watching the whales frolic in the sea. We really need to take time off more often.

{mmm... cheese and wine and the sea}

my kindle

Look what my wonderful husband bought me for my birthday!

It arrived here today, and though it might me more than a month before my actual birthday, I couldn't wait to open my package and Rudi couldn't wait to give it to me. So it's a super early gift. :)

I keep being amazed at what the screen looks like. It's not like anything I've seen before and it read really easily (which is obviously the idea). Now I just have to start downloading some books.

My first purchase off amazon.com was "Eat Pray Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert. I've been hearing a lot of good things about this book and I'm just feeling like the title would be a very good way for me to live right now. Don't get bogged down in all the trappings of our society, just remember what's important.

Anyway, here is to many hours of pleasant reading...

Megan & Megan

I'm not a big fan of Megan Fox by any means, but these photos by Craig McDean for Interview June/July 2010 are quite something.

Shopping in Long St, Mansions in Camps bay, Street Fairs in Muizenberg & Lunch in Kalk Bay

{funky buildings - love the colours}

I decided to walk around cape town a bit on Saturday (while my love played games). Long street is always fab.

{Still Life - one of my fav shops in town}

{gotta love the pink candy stripes | I'm dying to stay in one of the airstream trailers at the Grand Daddy}

{cape town is so colourful}

Then I took a drive around Oranjezicht, just to admire the houses.

{I would love to own any of these 3 houses in Oranjezicht}

And then off to Camps Bay for some more property spotting.

{Crazy expensive houses and their crazy beautiful views}

I drove up one of the side streets looking for a nice vantage point to take some photos from. I came across these two houses. The house on the left cost R100 000 000!!! Can you believe it. The one next to it costs R44 000 000. Just as unbelievable. Where do people find the money?

Sunday my mom and I went off to Muizenberg to walk around a street fair I'd read about. Very interesting little street, lots of cool shops and strange people.

{very strange house - who has a land rover on their front stoep?}

{pretty wooden houses}

We then went off to Kalk Bay to browse around the shops and have some lunch.

my home decor project: stacked frames

I'm sure you remember this post from a few days ago. Well I couldn't resist trying something similar out so off I went to the shops, got some cheap black frames, printed some of my photos and designs and, voila, my own little diy decor project.

It was super simple to do and I'm feeling very happy with the results. I just wish I had more space to set up some more.

philadelphia, diemersfontein & lecca il gelato

{De Malle Muel in Philadelphia}

Yesterday Rudi and I went for a bit of a drive. We stopped at Philadelphia to take some photo, went to Diemersfontein for wine tasting and then had lunch in Paarl at Lecca il Gelato, our favourite ice-cream shop. All in all it was a very good day.
