cape white eye

I love these little birds, they are just so cute and happy. So you can imagine how chufffed I was to find the most stunning little silver pendant of one at the Old Biscuit Mill market. It comes from a jewellery design studio called Skermunkil. I just love their stuff. I saw them at the Design Indaba today and just had to blog about my little bird. I've gotten so many complements about him.

Rudi and I headed off to the Design Indaba Expo this morning to have a look at all the wonderful creative work there. I would have loved to go to the three day conference, but who has the money? Maybe next year.

The last DI I had the chance of going to was in 2004 and I must say that it has really grown and improved. I went nutters over all the beautiful stuff and could have spent a fortune. But I restrained my self and only bought a perspex cuff.

And Rudi bought me these beautiful earrings (loving the bird thing at the moment) and these cute broches

Here are some of the great things and exhibitors that caught my eye.

Ideaseed Website

Well, the big website project Rudi and I have been working on for the last two months is finally finished and uploaded.

Ideaseed is a Australian agency specialising in powerpoint and motion graphics. It is run by a great gal, Georgie Cousens, who if full of fun and great ideas. For the last 6 months or so I have been privileged to work as part of her team and it's been a blast. Like most design agencies, ideaseed has been trying to get it's website up and running for a while, but just never got round to it. I finally got to meet Georgie in January while she was out here on holiday and we discussed Rudi and I taking a crack at the site.

I must stay that I really had fun on this and I love how it turned out. It's great working with someone who just lets you be creative and trusts your judgement. Rudi did all the super-duper programming and I'm just always amazed at how he can take my crazy ideas and make them work. Thank you love, I know I drove you crazy with this.

The great flash was done by the wonderful Zine. I'm always in awe of people who can do flash as I had it as a subject in varsity, but just never got it.

All in all this project went really well so I'm stoked. Check out the site at:

another crazy week

Bunnie

Another week has gone by and once again I haven't had a chance to blog even once :(. Things seem to finally be calming down now and the big project I've been working on is going live today. Maybe Rudi and I can now return to a normal life.

So, what's been happening lately?

Well, most of last week is a blur. We did go to The Royal Hotel on friday for our wedding menu tasting and before we got there we popped into Het Vlock Kasteel to buy the gifts for the wedding. That's where we saw the little cutie at the top of this post hoping around. We also took a lovely pic of the valley and there you can see the little cottage that will be out honeymoon suite for our first night as husband and wife :)

Riebeek Kasteel Honemoon Suite

Then it was off to the tasting. The hotel is looking so beautiful and it has been all spruced up. It was the most gorgeous day and we sat on the patio and ate great food and I thought "we are going to have such an amazing wedding here". I can't wait. Only 43 sleeps!

The weekend we mostly worked. Could have kicked ourselves as Rudi and I wanted to go to Boulders to swim, but thought "lets get all our work done on saturday (even though it was the most amazing day here) and we'll go swimming on sunday". Needless to say sunday turned out cool and a bit rainy, but we hopped in the car and just took a drive. It was still nice to get out of the house.

Simon's Town

Penguins

We went to see the penguins at boulders. They're so cute! And there is something so lovely about animals that mate for life.

Well, that's what went on in my life, except for all the work. I'm taking Rudi to Betty's Bay next weekend. Neither of us can wait as we really need the break. No pcs, no work, no last minute deadlines.

My new purple coat from Truworths. I never shop there as they are way to overpriced, but this I just couldn't resist.

Sales at La Senza. Their underwears just gorgeous

Chocholate Tequila shots at Tiki Bar

How our dogs love tea. They sit and beg us for some of ours in the mornings

That my mom and dad will be here in less than a month. Yay!

Little Birdy

This is just so presious. I want to bake biscuits like this

Logos and lots of work

At the beginning of the year I made a promise to myself to start a blog and try to write something every day. Needless to say that in the last couple of weeks all my good intentions have flown out the window. With spending most of my time in front of a pc designing I didn't feel I could put in any more time to do a blog post. I can't complain though... work = money = good :). Anyway, I'm not going to get too down on myself for not sticking to my promise, I'm just going to try my hardest to blog when I get the chance.

I have been dying to post a few of the things that I've been working on lately, so here they are. Just 3 logos and a little strip ad.

This is for a photojournalist and visual storyteller. She wanted her logo to be uniquely about her, so I got her to write her name and scanned it in to turn it into a logo.

This is for a company who will be supplying eco-friendly packaging to food outlets. They have great products that will hopefully negate the need for styrofoam and plastic food containers.

And this is for a new ultra trendy gym in Hout Bay. They sponsor one of SA's up and coming ultra marathon athletes and they did some branding on his kit, which I think turned out really nicely.

And last, but not least, a little strip ad for our wedding coordinators that I'm quite proud of.

aKing & Ice-cream

I can't believe it's Thursday already and I haven't gotten time yet this week to do even one small post. It's been crazy, crazy, crazy here, what with all the work pouring in and all the wedding plans to be finalised. But I have a few seconds at my disposal so let me tell you a little of what's been going on.

The weekend was pretty relaxed and a bit of a blur. Did I even have a weekend? At this point it doesn't feel like it. But anyway, the highlight was going to the aKing concerts at Kirstenbosch on Sunday. It was fab. We made up a picnic basket of all our favourite woolies treats, took some nice rose along and went and camped out on the grass. The weather wasn't the best, but we still really enjoyed ourselves. We had fun looking at all the strange people that made an appearance and the music was good. All in all it was a very pleasant experience and we will definitely be doing it again.

I finally got to hang up my Alex Hamilton art. They make me so happy every time I walk past them. They went up onto the only little piece of wall we have left in the house. I can't wait to move into a bigger place (that we hopefully own) and find a really nice place for them.

Most of the week was spent working hard. Most of the week nights too :P. I'm almost ahead with everything.

Then today we went for an ice-cream tasting at Lecca il Gelato in Paarl. We're having an ice-cream bar at the wedding. Rudi originally wanted an ice-cream cake, but logistic and money brought that dream to a bitter end so we settled on having ice-cream as dessert. The ice-cream at Lecca il Gelato is by far the best I've ever tasted. Mmm... so yummy. We're having such a hard time deciding what flavours to choose. If you ever see a Lecca il Gelato store do yourself a favour and stop in for a taste.

Sneak Peak

This morning we went off to see our wedding coordinators from We Do Weddings to have a look at a mock-up of our table settings. It was so exciting as I think the decor was one of the things I was most looking forward to seeing come together. Crisna and Willene did a beautiful job and I am sooo in love with the whole look. I took a bunch of pics to show my mom and I am dying to post them all here, but that would be giving away the surprise.

Our wedding is going to be very whimsical and fun with a lot of quirky elements and the decor had the potential to be too overboard and 'kiddie', but the great ladies from We do Weddings managed to keep that fun element while still making it look like a sophisticated wedding. I can't wait to see the final product as the table today was just to give me an idea of what they were planning. I'm so happy right now!

The weekend ahead promises to be a great one. It's the first weekend in a long time that Rudi and I aren't going to have to put in some work, so we are going to just relax and laze around. I'm sure there will be lots of xbox game playing as the 2nd controller and the Soul Calibur 4 game I bought Rudi for our anniversary came yesterday. I'm not big on games, but this game is totally addictive. My fingers are already sore!

And Sunday we're going to see aKing at Kirstenbosch, so that should be really fun. I've been dying to go to a Kirstenbosch summer concert for ages.

Art and Cocktails

Yesterday was a very good day. My amazing man bought me 3 of those Alex Hamilton paintings that I have been lusting after for the last couple of weeks. They are my Christmas, 3 year anniversary and wedding present all rolled into one and I absolutely adore them. No one has ever bought me art before. I just think it is the best present and something I will cherish for the rest of my life. Now I'm just trying to decide where to hang them.

Aren't they beautiful?

I treated myself to two extra ones as I just couldn't decide which 3 to choose so now I have a set of 5 and they just work so well together

And then last night we went out to have cocktails at Tiki Bar in Big Bay with some friends of ours and had a whale of a time. I love cocktails! Sitting there having drinks, laughing and watching the sun go down was a great way to end the day.
