photographer showcase: meg sexton

Here is another great photographer I recently discovered, Meg Sexton. I love her use of light, everything looks so fresh and dewy. Her colours are also just beautiful. And I would die for what she has in her camera bag :)

Check her beautiful blog out here and her website here

cute, cute, cute

Just to make you go aaah!

photographer showcase: Lizelle Lotter

My first featured photographer (there's a lot of ffff's in there) is the fabulous Lizelle Lotter. Yes ladies and gentlemen, you have seen her name mentioned here before... that's right, she shot our wedding. She's just superb! She take killer photos and best of all, you're laughing the whole time at her wise cracks.

Check out more of her amazing work here

aah pink

I want my hair like this. I've got the blonde (finally). Now for the pink.

I adore Rachel McAdams! And I maintain that she should have been Lois Lane in the news Superman. She's just so feisty

sweet thing } change the seasons

I just had to share this video. It's my number one feel good song of the moment. It's off the Easy A soundtrack. See the moving if you haven't yet. If you love nothing else about the movie you're going to love her insane parents.

ps: sorry about the silly video, but I can't embed the original :P

my next {hopefully} big thing

I have a new bee in my bonnet. Well, actually, it's been there a while, buzzing around quietly, making wish and dreams and plans. You see, I desperately want to get into photography, and more to the point, develop my skills to such a degree that I can one day make a living out of it. This bug bit after searching for a wedding photographer last year and seeing what amazing work they do. It look like a lot of hard work, but also just as much fun. And after meeting and having our photos taken by the wonderful Lizelle Lotter, I'm even more convinced that it could be an amazing career.

Not that I don't enjoy what I'm doing now. I love design! But I also can't see myself doing it for the rest of my life. It's stressful and, because of the kind of person I am (read people pleaser and perfectionist), it tends to take up more of my time than anything else.

So, I dream of one day riding around the countryside (or beach side or vineyards) taking beautiful photos of happy, joyous, in love, alive and vibrant people. Doesn't that just sound wonderful.

To further my cause I've started to do a lot of research into photography and therefore I'm sure you'll be seeing more of that sort of thing on my blog. I'll be posting some great photographers, some photos I find inspiring, that kind of thing. And hopefully, in some way or another, this will help me get that little bit closer to becoming a professional photographer.

ps: If you're brave and want to be volunteer as one of my models let me know. You might just get some nice photos out of it :)

These are just a few of my favorite logos I did last year. Some were just concepts, but others will be out there soon.

my first model shoot

On Sunday my uncle very graciously let me tag along on one of his photo shoots. It's the first time I've every done an model shoot and I was very excited to try out my nifty-fifty. We headed down to the beach at about 7:30 and just played around a bit. It was a lot of fun and our beautiful model Willow was up for anything. Shooting people is quite a bit harder than I'd thought it would be, but hopefully with a little practice I'll get better at it :)

our holiday: rounding it off in east london

The last week of our trip we spent with Rudi's aunt and uncle at their stunning beach house just outside East London. The beach is just a short walk away and all we did was relax some more, take photos and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Line, the neighbours Rhodesian Ridgeback, was always up for a walk on the beach.

We also ended up experimenting with some long exposures on the beach.

We drove back along the coast and it was so nice not to have to drive inland again and back to dreary Gauteng. On the way back we stopped in at the Tsitsikama National Park (have to go there for a holiday soon) and we slept over in Sedgefield.

Mmm, summer holidays are the best and this one was long and lazy and just what I needed after such a crazy year.

our holiday: new year in colesberg

I never thought I'd be a girl who likes vacationing in a small town, especially on out in the middle of nowhere, like Colesberg. But it exactly the fact that there really isn't much to do but sit around and relax that makes it so great. I said to Rudi that December just doesn't feel like a holiday anymore without a trip to his dad.

As has become our little tradition, Rudi, his dad and I went out to the Gariep Dam for breakfast on morning and then went off to take some photos of the dam overflowing. It's quite a site to see that much water cascading over such a drop.

I had a bit of an impromptu photo shoot with Rudi's 11 year old Jack Russel, Happy. We tried, but couldn't come close to being as lazy as she was.

our holiday: christmas in riebeek west

This year, for the first time in a while, we spent Christmas with my family. We've been to Rudi's folks in Colesburg the last couple of years and I don't mind in the least as I feel we see them so little that of course we'll go there for the holidays, but it was a nice change this year.

And it was wonderful spending the 5 days there, spending the day reading or swimming and the evenings out on the stoep just watching it get dark.

Christmas day was a very relaxed lazy affair, just how I like it. I'm not too big on having to go all out with the food and presents. The simpler the better.

I also spent quite a bit of time in my mom and dads new garden, taking photos of all their little plants.

All it all it was a very good way to start our holiday.

happy happy happy

Yes, I know, it's already the middle of January, but I've just gotten back from a fab holiday and I've only now managed to sit down to post something. I hope this year brings lots of good things and a little more calm. Though there were good things that happened last year I wouldn't ever want it over.

But , it's a new year and, hopefully, a new start. So to all of my loyal readers I say thank you! I'm not sure how many of you are out there, but I get such a thrill when someone posts a comment or sends me an email to say they like what I'm doing here.

All I can say now is have a ausome, fabulous, fun and fantastic year.

And keep reading my blog - pretty please :)
